RUBANDA, UGANDA – Five primary schools in Rubanda District have been transformed with new three-classroom blocks, replacing dilapidated structures that posed serious safety risks to pupils.

The development was confirmed by the Rubanda District Chairperson, LC V Stephen Kasyaba Ampeire, on Tuesday during the commissioning of a new block at Ruhonwa II Primary School in Hamurwa Sub-county.

Kasyaba revealed that the district was able to secure funds from the central government for the critical upgrade through strategic lobbying by State Minister of Finance Henry Musasizi.

“Through the efforts of our Minister, Hon. Henry Musasizi, we successfully lobbied for funds from the central government for this critical intervention,” Kasyaba stated.

He listed the beneficiary schools as Mungara Primary School (Muko Sub-county), Kagogo Primary School (Ikumba Sub-county), Ruhonwa II Primary School (Hamurwa Sub-county), Nyamiringa Primary School (Bubare Town Council), and Nangalo Primary School.

The project included not only the construction of modern classroom blocks but also the previous distribution of twin desks and iron sheets to the schools, providing a comprehensive facelift to the learning environment.

The headteacher of Ruhonwa II Primary School, Kiconco Gad, recounted that the perilous old buildings were a safety hazard, especially during rain, which justifiably frightened parents and affected enrollment.

The community’s fears were tragically validated in a past incident recalled by catechist Maria Evas, where a collapsing classroom wall claimed the life of the school’s PTA chairperson, Alex Musasizi.

Parents at Ruhonwa II Primary School expressed overwhelming relief and gratitude, describing how their children were finally free from extremely dusty, unsuitable conditions that hampered both health and concentration.

The new classroom blocks mark a turning point, promising safer, more conducive learning environments that are expected to boost enrollment, attendance, and academic performance.

The project stands as a testament to the impact of focused local advocacy and responsive national leadership in addressing critical infrastructure gaps in Uganda’s education sector.
