NTUNGAMO, UGANDA – Defiant campaign posters, erected squarely in the middle of roads across Ntungamo district, have forced terrified motorists into a dangerous game of dodge, swerving onto pedestrian lanes to avoid collisions.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The incident began when angry local citizens removed campaign posters belonging to Rushenyi County MP aspirant Hon. Oscar Kamugira of the NUP Party. The posters had been placed in the middle of a road in Omukidebe, Kagango ward, Rubare Town Council.
A concerned resident, Gabriel Arahi, who witnessed the scene, confirmed that the poster was placed in a known high-traffic and accident-prone area, questioning the aspirant’s concern for the safety of road users.
“It was deeply troubling. To see a campaign poster placed right in the middle of the road, in an area we all know is prone to accidents, makes you question whether the aspirant has any regard for our safety,” said Gabriel.
The Ntungamo NUP party Coordinator, Isma Karyango, was alerted to the issue by a concerned resident, prompting a swift investigation from the party’s local leadership.
This quick response came despite initial speculation that the posters were placed by over-enthusiastic supporters.
Karyango firmly distanced the party from the irresponsible act upon investigation, explaining that the posters had been legitimately erected in safe locations the previous day, Tuesday the 27th.
“This was a deliberate act of sabotage to discredit our campaign. Our posters were legitimately placed in safe locations yesterday. I don’t know who moved them into the road, but this is not the work of our supporters,” stated Karyango.
He strongly condemned the action, suggesting it was a deliberate attempt by non-supporters to tarnish the NUP’s name, but thanks to swift reporting by residents and his immediate response, the situation was resolved quickly.
