The warning was issued by Ven. Canon Rev. Yorokamu Tayebwa of Ndekye Archdeaconry in West Ankole Diocese, as he presided over celebrations honoring Ryeru High School’s exceptional 2025 UCE and UACE results in Rubirizi District.

The celebrations, held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the school premises in Rubirizi Sub-County, were not only a triumph of academic excellence but also a powerful call for students to safeguard their futures.

Ven. Tayebwa warned that early marriage compromises a child’s development and strictly limits their life opportunities, while also negatively affecting future generations.

“Early marriage compromises a child’s development and strictly limits their opportunities in life. It can also negatively affect future generations,” Ven. Tayebwa stated.

He passionately urged learners to remain focused and disciplined in order to achieve their life goals, and to steer clear of any substance abuse that could derail their dreams.

Ryeru High School director Haji Munir Kayemba noted that the celebration testified to the school’s commitment to academic excellence, driven by teamwork, determination, quality learners, and dedicated teachers.

He announced that the school’s directors have committed to annual rewards for good performance, starting this year with over 50 million shillings in cash offered to students and teachers as an incentive for even greater effort.

“This celebration shows our school’s commitment to excellence through teamwork and hard work. My fellow directors and I have decided to give 50 million shillings yearly to reward students and teachers, to encourage them to make even greater efforts,” said Haji Munir Kayemba.

Kayemba further urged the student body to stay in school, remain well-disciplined, work hard, and believe in themselves, emphasizing that these virtues would help turn their dreams into reality.

The school’s headteacher, Biira Jetrace, revealed that at the A-Level (UACE), two students achieved an impressive 20 points, one student scored 19 points, while the rest of the candidates scored between 10 and 17 points each.

She attributed the success to the combined tireless efforts, professionalism, and passion for nurturing young minds, noting that success is a result of discipline, resilience, and commitment.

“This success is a direct reflection of the combined tireless efforts, professionalism, and passion for nurturing young minds. Success is a result of discipline, resilience, and commitment,” Biira noted.

She also extended heartfelt gratitude to parents for their support, guidance, and sacrifice, reminding them that education is a partnership whose success is a testament to strong collaboration grounded in love, humility, sacrifice, and perseverance.

The headteacher assured parents that the school remains committed to providing quality education, nurturing talents, and instilling strong values, and that they will continue striving for excellence in all academic disciplines.

Rubirizi District Deputy Education Officer Tumusiime Geoffrey sternly warned parents who neglect educational priorities, stating that such homes will see no positive change.

“Parents must prioritize education as a vital investment for their families. Education offers long-term benefits for personal growth, economic stability, and social development,” Geoffrey said.

He urged parents to reframe education as fundamental to family wealth, adding that they must view investing in their children’s quality education as an investment in their homes.

Each student who scored 20 points received 1 million shillings in cash, while those who performed exceptionally well at the O-Level also received 500,000 shillings each.
