The exercise was led by Division Commander Major General Paul Muhanguzi in which the combined force of officers and militants showcased a powerful demonstration of military preparedness and physical fitness.

Addressing troops at the Division headquarters playground before the exercise, Maj Gen Muhanguzi underscored how physical conditioning is critical to a soldier’s life and directly linked to the unit’s operational effectiveness.

“The purpose of the route march is to check troop and combat readiness. We regularly conduct such exercises as part of our daily military planning to ensure that all personnel remain fit and prepared for any contingency,” stated Maj Gen Muhanguzi.

The Commander further framed the exercise within its broader strategic context, stressing that its objectives reached far beyond the realm of physical exertion.

Maj Gen Muhanguzi explained that such collective exercises are fundamental in building the essential military virtues of teamwork, unity of purpose, and unit cohesion.

He emphasized that the values crucial for a successful fighting force are demonstrated through exercises like the route march, which signals the UPDF’s commitment to readiness and its mission to safeguard national security and uphold peace.
