The Commission made the announcement in an official press release dated October 23, 2025, signed by its Chairperson, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon.

According to the release, the Electoral Commission has set Monday, 27th and Tuesday, 28th October 2025, as the two-day period for conducting new nominations in all affected areas.

This action is taken in strict compliance with Section 26 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap 177, which provides the legal framework for such an eventuality during an election cycle.

In the statement, Justice Byabakama clarified that all other candidates who were successfully nominated for the affected positions will not have to undergo the nomination process again.

He confirmed that their candidacy remains valid, and the fresh nomination is intended solely to find a replacement for the deceased candidate.

“The candidates who were previously duly nominated to contest in the affected elective positions at the respective Local Government Councils shall not be required to undergo nomination again,” stated Justice Byabakama.

The Commission advised all aspiring candidates who wish to contest in the affected electoral areas to obtain the necessary nomination forms and guidelines from their respective District Electoral Commission offices.

The specific electoral areas affected by this development were not listed in the press release.
