According to figures reported by UEDCL officials, the drive had collected 68 units of blood on Day One.

Speaking to this website after donating blood, UEDCL Kabale Station Manager Ms. Lovinsa Nshemereirwe said the drive was part of the organization’s Corporate Social Responsibility programs, aimed at contributing efforts to address blood shortages across the country.
She called on all residents of Greater Kabale District to join the campaign and help save mothers suffering from postpartum haemorrhage, accident victims, cancer patients, and others whose survival depends on blood transfusions.
“Let’s be those silent heroes to the mothers in hospitals, accident victims, and others who need this blood,” she said.
Ms. Nshemereirwe added that the blood donation drive would also provide a platform for gathering feedback and addressing any issues raised by UEDCL customers across Greater Kabale District.

Mr. Byamugisha highlighted the importance of donating blood, explaining that Uganda was falling short of the annual blood collection target set by the World Health Organization due to several challenges, including limited resources and low donor turnout.
“Sometimes there are insufficient funds to support such drives, but our people also fear or deliberately ignore calls to donate blood,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nshemereirwe revealed that, as of October 2026, UEDCL was serving up to 19,000 customers connected to the national grid, across Greater Kabale District.
She further revealed that a total of 2,537 customers had been connected since the transition from UMEME to UEDCL in March 2025. When UEDCL took over from UMEME, there was a backlog of applications for new connections. However, Ms. Nshemereirwe said the company had cleared all applications from 2025, connected 950 customers in 2026 alone, and planned to connect another 400 customers before Christmas.
“No customer is pending from 2025, and we are committed to clearing all pending new connections (400) before Christmas,” she said.
