RUBAARE, NTUNGAMO – More than thirty people are fighting for their lives after a tipper truck carrying mourners to a burial overturned Monday afternoon, leaving a trail of critical injuries, primarily to the head.

According to preliminary accounts from witnesses, the driver of the yet-unidentified vehicle lost control while overturning, causing the truck to flip.
The victims were residents of Kandago, Rukiga District, traveling to attend a burial in Kyabukuju cell, Rubaare Town Council.
Tragically, the burial was for Joseph Kyomuhangi, who himself died from injuries sustained in a separate accident on the same road just days prior an accident that also claimed the life of a one-year-old baby.
After witnesses alleged the tipper truck was dangerously overloaded with approximately 55 passengers,emergency services rushed the injured to multiple medical facilities.
Our reporter, visiting Karuhanga Doctors Referral Hospital in Rubaare, confirmed at least 12 victims were admitted with severe head injuries, facial wounds, and head ruptures, all listed in critical condition.
Other critically injured victims were transported to the larger Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Among the grieving families is Mr. Felix Turinawe, a resident of Muhanga Town Council, whose mother is among the injured receiving treatment.
“My mother was among the mourners who left Kandago for the burial in Kyabukuju. Unfortunately, they did not make it. They were caught in this catastrophic moment,” Turinawe confirmed in a state of grief.
By press time, police officials at the scene were not yet prepared to release an official statement or a list of the injured, stating that their investigation was ongoing.
However, they confirmed that, miraculously, no deaths had been registered from the accident at the time their initial assessment was completed.
