Rukiga, Uganda – The Ministry of Health is set to commission two major health projects at Kisoro Hospital, aimed at enhancing service delivery in the region.

The projects, funded by the Ministry of Health in partnership with the World Bank at a cost of 5.9 billion shillings, were initially scheduled for completion in December 2024.
However, due to delays, the contractor requested an extension, and after a new opening date was set for May 30, 2025, another one-month extension was later requested.
The two facilities are now set to be officially commissioned on June 26, 2025, a development Dr. Emmanuel emphasized is particularly crucial given Kisoro District’s strategic location at the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
He noted that individuals infected with various diseases often cross into Kisoro seeking treatment, making the new isolation ward a crucial addition to the hospital’s infrastructure.

The hospital is well-prepared to utilize the new facilities, with qualified surgeons ready to operate in the new theatre and a committed medical staff dedicated to providing quality services to the people in the region.
The commissioning of these projects is expected to significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide better healthcare services to the community.
With the new facilities, Kisoro Hospital will be better equipped to handle various health challenges, including infectious diseases, and provide quality medical care to those in need.
