Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda Police Force has launched safety measures for the upcoming Martyrs’ Day celebrations at Namugongo, scheduled for June 3, 2025.

According to Michael Kananura, Traffic Police Spokesperson, the police plan to escort pilgrim groups and hand them over to officers at designated points along their route.
To minimize risks and prevent accidents, the police have issued guidelines for both pilgrims and motorists.
Pilgrims are advised to move in groups for safety and easy coordination, wear reflective jackets at night to increase visibility, walk on the right side of the road to monitor oncoming traffic, and find safe places to cross the road when necessary.
Motorists are urged to observe speed limits, particularly near pedestrian areas and major pilgrimage routes, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, and refrain from unsafe overtaking, especially near crowds or hazardous terrain.
They are also expected to respect pedestrian walkways and give right of way to pilgrims and other pedestrians.
The police appeal to all road users to exercise caution and cooperate with law enforcement officials to ensure a peaceful and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
