Dr. Alexander Kampikaho at the Polling Station, Mparo Town Council

Dramatic scenes erupted today in Mparo Town Council of Rukiga District as the once-powerful Dr. Alexander Kampikaho, former LC5 Chairman, faced a crushing blow—losing not just once, but twice in the fiercely contested NRM party elections.

The political giant who superintended Rukiga District as its LC.5 Chairman from 2017 to 2021,  was today sent home tumbling after losing to a rising political star, named Amed Bende.

In a jaw-dropping showdown at Mparo Town Council Headquarters, Kampikaho’s bid for NRM’s Mparo Town Council Chairmanship fell flat after the indomitable Amed Bende (the area’s District LC.5 Councilor), bagged a landslide victory with 123 votes to Kampikaho’s mere 4.

“This defeat is a stinging reminder of Kampikaho’s waning influence” one of the supporters of Amed Bende jeered after the election.

But the drama didn’t end there. Kampikaho, desperate to salvage his battered reputation, threw his hat into the ring for the NRM Vice Chairmanship. Yet, once again, he was ruthlessly overpowered by the Mparo Town Council Speaker Ms.  Joy Tumushabe, another associate of Amed Bende , who clinched 74 votes against Kampikaho’s 43.

The elections, overseen by NRM Returning Officer Charity Natukunda, showcased a dramatic shift in local political tides—one that could leave Kampikaho’s political career  shaken to its core.

Sources whisper that Kampikaho’s downfall may be karmic retribution. Insider reports suggest that his defeat was fueled by his costly campaign against former Sheema RDC Frank Besigye Kyereere, who narrowly lost his bid for Nyarurambi Parish in Rwamucuucu subcounty.

“He poured a lot of energy and resources into fighting Kyereere’s victory last week, and now he’s paying the price,” a local voter confided to this reporter,  anonymously.

Elsewhere, Rukiga MP aspirant Laston Besigye was also defeated by the district’s NRM Administrative Secretary, Asiimwe Jackson Rwamwehare—who is simultaneously vying for the Rukiga District LC5 Chairmanship in 2026.

Meanwhile, today’s Rukiga District election scenes involved a Headline victory for Renown Lawyer and economist, Kiconco Patrick Katabazi who was declared as the unopposed winner for the election of the Rwamucuucu Subcounty NRM Chairperson, by Returning Officer Henry Kamugisha.

Counsel Katabazi is also vying for the Rukiga MP seat 2026-2031.
