Ntungamo, Uganda – A devastating road crash along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo route in Rukungiri district has claimed 3 lives and 19 other people are left fighting for their lives at Nyakibale Hospital with severe injuries.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The incident occurred on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at around 10:20 PM in Omukabingo Cell, Buyanja Sub-County, involving a collision between an Isuzu Bus UBN 331G belonging to Perfect Company and a Toyota Hiace UBA 341G.
The deceased persons have been identified as Ronald aka Kakimpa, 35, taxi conductor, Liberty Bonance, 3, Congolese national, and an unidentified female taxi passenger.
Among those injured currently admitted at Nyakibale Hospital are four UPDF officers including Capt. Musinguzi Bright, S/Sgt. Kwesigwa Edgar, L/Cpl. Tukwasibwe Alex, and Pte. Okello Francis.
The other injured individuals include Pacific Claude, a Congolese national, and 14 Ugandan civilians with varying ages and occupations.
The Kigezi police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that upon being informed, a team of officers visited the scene, drafted a sketch plan, and recorded statements.
The bodies were taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre Mortuary for postmortem, and the vehicles were impounded pending inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).
According to Maate, the bus driver remains at large, and preliminary investigations suggest reckless driving as the suspected cause of the accident.
“After the collision, the bus and taxi were left in disarray. Two taxi occupants and one bus occupant died at the scene. The survivors are receiving medical attention at Nyakibale Hospital. The bus driver is still at large. Police are investigating, with reckless driving suspected as the cause.” Said ASP Maate Elly.
Road crashes along the Kanungu-Rukungiri-Ntungamo route are alarmingly frequent and deadly. Reports consistently show that these tragic incidents are often caused by reckless driving and poor road conditions, leading to significant loss of life and numerous injuries.
