The alleged false information claimed that the Ministry had resolved to extend the reopening of schools to 4th April 2026 due to the General Elections, a claim the ministry denied.
The Ministry reaffirmed that the approved school calendar dated 24th November 2025 remains unchanged, with all reopening dates for schools and institutions standing as originally published.
According to the official calendar, Term I for the 2026 Academic Year runs from Monday, 2nd February 2026 to Friday, 1st May 2026.
Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda further urged headteachers, parents, guardians, school administrators, and students to rely solely on information published through the Ministry’s official platforms.
She also directed all school administrators across the country to adhere firmly to the dates in the official calendar and to ignore any unofficial announcements from unverified sources.
“The approved school calendar remains the sole authoritative reference for school opening and closing dates nationwide,” Dr. Turyagyenda stated.
The announcement serves as a critical reminder to verify information through official government channels before acting on potentially disruptive rumours.
