KABALE – Dispute now shadows the NRM’s bond with Kigezi, where years of steadfast voting, campaigning, and defending through every trial have given way to a quiet ache among loyal supporters who feel, simply, forgotten.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The stake disclosure was unveiled by senior political analyst and Kigezi-based journalist Samuel Namanya during an engagement with this reporter on the Ugandan political environment.
Namanya observed that the problem remains that qualified and willing Kigezi cadres are locked out of government jobs, leaving decades of party loyalty unrewarded and many feeling deeply sidelined.
Many cadres are now asking hard questions about whether top leaders resist younger talent or whether appointment systems systematically bypass Kigezi’s loyal foot soldiers.
The senior journalist warned that if the party continues ignoring its own grassroots supporters, it risks draining the very energy and trust that have sustained its strength across the region.
“The qualified Kigezi cadres are being locked out of government jobs, leaving loyal supporters feeling sidelined. If the party ignores its foot soldiers, it risks losing trust and energy. Cadres question why other regions get more appointments; they only want a fair chance, not special treatment,” Namanya observed.
A question of fairness now lingers over why Kigezi receives fewer appointments than other regions, with cadres insisting they seek no special favours, only an equal opportunity to serve with their proven skills and experience.
Ruling NRM cadres are calling for a nationwide identification and fair vetting of loyal members, so that ability and service are rewarded with real jobs while they are still young and active.
The NRM’s promise to value sacrifice is now being tested in Kigezi, where loyal supporters insist that loyalty must translate into opportunity, not just empty words of appreciation.
Cadres stress they are not enemies but family, and they want to feel like true children of the party home, not visitors passing through, as they urge leadership to match rhetoric with action.
