The deceased has been identified as Kyohairwe Jenipher, 46, a resident of Katunga village, Ruyonza Parish, Nyarushanje Sub County, in Rukungiri District.

According to sources, on Tuesday Jenipher left home and went to Kigango village for the burial of Tumwebaze Darren. After the burial, she remained there drinking alcohol and dancing with other residents.

Around midnight, she went to her mother’s home. Upon arrival, she told her sister, Owoyesiga Gorette, that she was returning to the burial place to collect her phone from Tindimweba Geripina.

At approximately 4:00 a.m. the next day, she returned to her mother’s home without the phone and left again, saying she was going to retrieve it from Tindimweba Geripina.

Tragically, she did not reach her destination and never returned home. Her body was discovered lifeless on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at around 7:00 a.m., lying along the Omukarere-Omukishanda road with multiple head injuries.

The Kigezi Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, told the press that Rubabo Police were notified about the incident, who in turn informed the Rukungiri Central Police Station (CPS).

He stated that a homicide team was dispatched and investigations commenced. The crime scene was visited, documented, and photographed by a team of officers, including a K-9 unit.

“Immediate and comprehensive investigative actions have been taken, including a detailed forensic examination of the scene by a specialized team. We are dedicating all necessary resources and appeal to the public: if you have any information, please contact your nearest police station,” stated Maate.

The deceased’s body was conveyed to Buyanja HC III mortuary for a postmortem examination with the police actively searching for the yet-unidentified suspect, as the inquiries continue.
