KIGEZI, UGANDA – The Kigezi Sub-Region has demonstrated a dramatic surge in support for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, a transformation widely attributed to the vigorous mobilization efforts of Senior Presidential Advisor on Agriculture, Ms. Peace Rugambwa.

Appointed to the role by President Yoweri Museveni in mid-2025, Peace Rugambwa who also chairs the influential Boona Bageigahare Nyekundire Group has swiftly embarked on a campaign to rally citizens behind the government.

Even prior to her formal appointment, Rugambwa had been actively organizing residents into various groups to form Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs).

This groundwork enabled communities to directly access several government poverty-eradication programs, fostering goodwill and tangible economic connections.

Her strategy has effectively bridged grassroots economic empowerment with political mobilization, creating a practical demonstration of NRM-linked initiatives.

In recent media engagements, Rugambwa has consistently highlighted the NRM’s achievements under President Museveni’s nearly four-decade leadership, placing paramount emphasis on the enduring peace and security she credits to the administration.

“President Museveni’s leadership has ensured stability, enabling our country to focus on development. This peace is not automatic; it requires wise and experienced stewardship to maintain,” Rugambwa stated.

She has urged residents to renew the President’s mandate in upcoming elections, arguing that continuity is critical to protecting the hard-won peace and poverty-alleviation programs.

Analyzing the political shift in the region, Robert Mwesigye, a farmer from Rubanda District, said Rugambwa’s message is visibly resonating.

Local leaders report a surge in NRM registrations and enthusiastic turnouts at party events.Political observer Mildred Arineitwe noted that Rugambwa’s dual role as a presidential advisor and a respected local community leader gives her unique credibility.

“Peace connects the government’s work directly to our lives. When she explains the need for stability, we understand it because we are living in it. She operates with the authority of the State House but the vernacular familiarity of a community elder,” Arineitwe analyzed.

This signals a profound transformation for Kigezi,a region whose political identity was long defined as a historic opposition stronghold.

The area was home to prominent FDC leaders like Dr. Kizza Besigye and Jack Sabiiti, whose influence once made it difficult for the NRM to find strong backing.
