KISORO – Kisoro General Hospital has received essential supplies for the expansion of its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from the dedicated team behind the Virunga Marathon.

The generous funding from the Virunga Marathon, the ICU’s capacity has seen a significant expansion from three to seven beds.
The Marathon team, led by Nsabirwa Semu, delivered oxygen machinery as well as curtains, fans, and mosquito nets to significantly improve comfort and hygiene within the unit ahead of the ICU beds being brought into use.
Dr. Bahane Emmanuel expressed deep gratitude to the Virunga Marathon team for their overwhelming support, calling it a true game-changer for intensive care services.
He confirmed that the additional beds and equipment will dramatically improve emergency response and patient management at a hospital serving Kisoro, Rwanda, and DR Congo.
“These additional beds and equipment will dramatically enhance our emergency response and patient management capabilities at the facility,” Dr. Bahane said.
Dr. Bahane further pledged proper maintenance and effective use of the donation, ensuring patients receive the maximum benefit from this generous contribution.
The upgrade marks a new chapter for Kisoro Hospital, where healthcare workers will now be better equipped to save lives in critical moments, a testament to the power of community-driven sport and partnership.
