KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Ministry of Health has handed over six brand new motorcycles to district health teams, aiming to enhance the supervision of Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) across the country.

The motorcycles were delivered to the districts of Kween, Lwengo, Nakasongola, Kwania, Butalejja, and Luwero, building on a previous allocation to Nakaseke.

The official handover ceremony on Friday, October 17, 2025, was officiated by the Director General of Health Services, Dr. Charles Olaro, with key officials from the ministry’s administrative and health promotion departments in attendance.

Dr. Olaro confirmed that the initiative’s primary goal is to solve the mobility challenge for health supervisors, enabling them to travel more frequently and efficiently to remote villages for effective monitoring, mentorship, and support of CHEWs.

He added that these frontline health workers are crucial, serving as the backbone of rural healthcare by delivering essential services directly to households in the most remote communities.

“This support underscores our commitment to strengthening the primary healthcare system and ensuring that CHEWs are effectively supervised and facilitated to deliver quality services to the community,” Dr. Olaro remarked.

The initiative is designed to improve health outcomes by strengthening field-level coordination and logistics, ensuring that supervision and by extension, quality care reaches the most remote populations.

This injection of resources is expected to create a ripple effect, leading to better-supported CHEWs, improved health monitoring, and ultimately, stronger and healthier communities across Uganda.
