Logistical Snag Delays UCE Exam Start in Remote Kisoro

KISORO, UGANDA – The start of the crucial Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations was delayed in several remote sub-counties of Kisoro District on Monday due to a logistical hiccup in the distribution of examination papers.

The disruption occurred despite clear guidelines from the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), which stipulate that head teachers must collect exam papers from designated distribution points by 8:30 a.m. for a 9:00 a.m. start.

However, the process was not completed until approximately 9:15 a.m., pushing back the schedule for an unspecified number of candidates.

The district UCE Examination Supervisor, Mbonyebyombi Charles, identified the time-consuming process of filling out and verifying UNEB receipt forms as the primary cause of the delay.

Despite the morning’s delays, Supervisor Mbonyebyombi allayed fears that the ongoing national teachers’ strike would disrupt the examinations, revealing a strong turnout of educators willing to supervise.

“Regarding the teachers’ strike, we are not facing any disruption. In fact, we have more teachers who have applied to supervise these exams than we even need. This overwhelming response is a positive development and ensures the smooth running of the examination process going forward,” stated Mbonyebyombi.

Meanwhile, headteachers from other institutions in Kisoro expressed strong confidence in their students’ preparedness, emphasizing that the minor delay would not affect performance.

Headteachers Gatangaza Shafati of Nyakinama Seed Secondary School and Peace Ruzaza of Seseme Girls Secondary School both confirmed their schools were well-prepared and urged their candidates to remain focused and confident.

With the initial hurdle overcome, officials are confident that the examinations will proceed smoothly for the remainder of the period.
