Kabale, Uganda – A female juvenile, a student in lower primary level classes, died on the spot after being tragically hit by a speeding motor vehicle in Kabale while crossing the road from left to right after evening classes.

Identified as Arinitwe Favor, 6, a Primary One pupil at Progressive Primary School Rwakaraba, she died in an accident that occurred at approximately 5:30 PM on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Burambira along the Kabale-Kisoro road.

The deceased was knocked down by a Toyota Premio UBE642E, driven by an unknown driver, heading from Kabale to Kisoro district.

According to eyewitness accounts, the driver, after reaching Burambira just after the police camera, attempted to dodge the young girl but lost control of the vehicle and knocked her down, resulting in instant death.

The Kigezi Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that the deceased’s body was taken to her parents’ home, where arrangements for a postmortem were made.

The scene was visited by police officers, who drew a sketch plan and towed the vehicle to the police station. Investigations have been launched to identify the driver, who is still at large.

The incident highlights the vulnerability of young school-going children, who require a lot of care in their travels to and from school, and underscores the need for drivers to exercise caution, especially in areas with pedestrian traffic.
