Kampala, Uganda – The newly completed state-of-the-art Luzira Prison Staff Clinic is set to boast advanced features such as admission wards, ICU, maternity wards, surgical theaters, and diagnostic centers.
This was confirmed by Uganda Prison Service Commissioner General, Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, during an inspection of the facility on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
According to Dr. Byabashaija, the clinic promises to revolutionize healthcare for prison staff, inmates, and nearby communities, including Mutungo, Luzira, Kitintale, Mbuya, Namwongo, Nakawa, Kinawataka, and Bugolobi.

The facility aims to Provide immediate attention to emergencies and alleviate pressure on public hospitals by offering healthcare services to locals and also Boosting staff welfare and community well-being, aligning with the Uganda Prisons Service’s goals.
“Our facility will provide on-site emergency care, reduce external referrals, and offer accessible services to locals, thereby easing the pressure on public hospitals. This will not only enhance staff welfare but also contribute to community well-being, aligning with the Uganda Prisons Service’s objectives,” said Dr. Johnson Byabashaija.
The Luzira Prison Staff Clinic sets a new benchmark for prison healthcare, enhancing life quality in and around Luzira.
