RUKUNGIRI – Rukungiri District Commissioner Bron Kikanshemeza has ordered residents to take part in National Cleaning Day on the 29th, warning that no outside activities will be tolerated during the set hours.

He said everyone is expected to take part in the cleaning activities during the designated hours, adding that residents will not be permitted to move around or conduct other business at that time.
The RDC also dismissed the belief that the cleaning exercise is meant only for urban centres, saying it should be conducted in all communities and at places such as churches, hospitals, homes, and other institutions.

Kikanshemeza further disclosed that the government is poised to roll out designated dustbins across urban centres as a strategic measure to strengthen waste management systems.
However, he challenged individuals and institutions responsible for generating and collecting waste, including shops, homes, hospitals, supermarkets, and churches, to establish proper facilities and methods for safe waste disposal.
The RDC further emphasized that enhanced sanitation and efficient waste disposal would significantly curb the prevalence of diseases linked to poor hygiene and unhygienic living environments.
