KANUNGU – The Ugandan Minister of Health, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, has made a solemn and unwavering pledge to uplift and transform the standard of social services across every corner of Kanungu district.

Fr. Syrus Aharizira, held at St. John Mukinga Catholic Church in Makiro Parish.
Minister Baryomunsi candidly acknowledged Kanungu’s pressing challenges, including lack of electricity, poor roads, inadequate health facilities, and substandard education, while affirming these are not mere statistics but daily realities for the people he serves.
He assured the people of Kanungu of his unwavering commitment to resolving these issues, pledging to work tirelessly to bring meaningful development and improved social services to every corner of the district.
“These are not just statistics to me; they are the daily realities of the people I represent and serve. I want to assure the people of Kanungu that we are working tirelessly to address these issues and bring meaningful development to every corner of this district,” Minister Baryomunsi stated.
Minister Baryomunsi pledged to contribute towards the construction of a modern Catholic church in Mukinga, recognizing the vital role that places of worship play in community cohesion and spiritual development.

Rev. Fr. Austin Chrismas, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral in Kabale, called for unity among Christians and challenged the newly ordained Fr. Syrus to champion inclusivity in his new role.
He urged the young priest to be a bridge rather than a wall, a unifier rather than a divider, and to ensure that every Christian finds a true home in the house of God through their ministry of reconciliation and grace.

Fr. Austin further charged the ordained Fr. Syrus to embrace his new position as an opportunity to serve humanity through reconciliation, mercy, and grace, while emphasizing the importance of leading by example and placing God at the center of everything.
He further appealed to Christians to support their priests both financially and socially, recognizing that a well-supported minister is better equipped to serve the community effectively and fulfill his pastoral duties.

Rev. Fr. Syrus Aharizira was ordained as a priest on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in a solemn ceremony held at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Cathedral Rushoroza in Kabale Municipality.
The ordination was officiated by Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira of Kabale Diocese, marking a significant milestone in Fr. Syrus’s spiritual journey and ministry as he begins his service under the Catholic faith.
The thanksgiving ceremony drew a large congregation of faithful from across the region, all gathered to celebrate and pray for the newly ordained priest as he embarks on his sacred calling.
