RUKUNGIRI – Police in Rukungiri District have launched an investigation into the sudden death of a casual labourer who, shortly after receiving 2,000 UGX for work at a banana plantation, was found dead, his body abandoned by the roadside.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The deceased has been identified as Mutabaruka Male, an elderly man and a resident of Rugoma Cell, Southern Ward, Kebisoni Town Council in Rukungiri District who was working as a shamba labourer in a banana plantation.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased had laboured throughout the day in the plantation and was paid 2,000 shillings. He then proceeded to a nearby trading centre for a drink, an ordinary routine that ultimately ended in tragedy.
Moments later, Mutabaruka’s lifeless body was found lying by the roadside, sending shockwaves through the community and prompting an immediate police response. The abrupt and mysterious nature of his death has left many searching for answers.
The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, confirmed that officers at Rukungiri CPS swiftly arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and meticulously processed the site for forensic clues.
He added that the body was conveyed to a nearby hospital for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death thus appealing to the public for information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible.
“We urge members of the community to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of suspects involved in this unfortunate incident. Even the smallest detail could be crucial to our investigations,” SP Tumushime said.
The spokesperson emphasized that even the smallest piece of information could prove vital to the ongoing investigation, as authorities work tirelessly to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
