Ministry Unveils “Expose the Corrupt” Crusade to Root Out Embezzlement in Local Governments

KAMPALA – The Ministry of Local Government has unveiled a sweeping anti-corruption crusade, codenamed “Expose the Corrupt,” to root out massive embezzlement of public funds in district local governments throughout Uganda.

The development follows shocking discoveries in Eastern Uganda, where taxpayers lost UGX 500 million to an undersized bridge and UGX 73 million to a pit latrine without a pit.

The inspections, spearheaded by Ministers Balaam Barugahara and Justine Nameere Nsubuga, commenced in early July 2026 and have already sent shockwaves through local government structures, with officials facing immediate arrests.

The ministers have already covered four districts in their ongoing tour, with ambitious plans to reach all 146 districts across the country, under the mission to restore public trust in ensuring every coin serves its intended purpose.

Minister Barugahara warned that public fund thieves will face public exposure, stressing that every shilling must serve its purpose to improve infrastructure, service delivery, and restore local government accountability.

“When you steal public funds, you will be exposed publicly. If you hate humiliation, don’t tamper with or misuse public resources. Every shilling belongs to the people and must be used for its intended purpose. Let us improve our public infrastructure, strengthen service delivery, and restore accountability in local government,” Minister Barugahara warned.

Minister Barugahara also extended heartfelt appreciation to the security and administrative teams in the districts of Mbale and Bulambuli for their instrumental role in the campaign’s early successes.

“I sincerely thank the DISOs of Mbale and Bulambuli, the CID officers, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the DPC Mbale, RPC Twalla, the DPC Bulambuli, the outgoing Deputy RDC of Bulambuli, the RDC of Mbale District, and all patriotic Ugandans led by our General Secretary, Hon. Twalla Fadhil, together with all the Area Members of Parliament for Mbale and Bulambuli, who have supported the Expose the Corrupt campaign so far,” the Minister stated.

He further appealed to all staff in the Office of the President, ISO, Crime Intelligence officers, RDCs, and every patriotic Ugandan to join and support the campaign movement.

The “Expose the Corrupt” campaign offers a glimmer of hope for Ugandans weary of poor infrastructure and wasted resources, as it continues nationwide.
