The meeting, which brought together head teachers from both government and private primary schools across the district, was convened to review performance and plan for the second term of the 2026 academic year.
During the meeting, Erasmus confirmed that the submissions to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) will officially close on Friday, 10th July 2026.
“Kanungu has registered 6,104 PLE candidates for 2026, the highest in recent years. However, I remind all schools that UNEB submissions close this Friday, 10th July, and no extensions will be granted,” stated Erasmus.
He added that mock examination papers will be distributed on the day of sitting and managed by zonal chairpersons, with external supervisors deployed to every school to reinforce accountability.
The meeting, chaired by the District Education Officer (DEO), Shaban Adam, brought together inspectors of schools, the district sports officer, the human resource officer, the senior education officer, and the leadership of the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU).
Shaban Adam raised alarm over declining enrollment in some schools, presenting P.1 to P.7 data to illustrate how delayed EMIS updates negatively impact capitation grants.
He observed that some School Management Committee members pursue selfish interests and stressed the need for proper orientation to clarify their responsibilities.
“Enrollment is dropping in some schools, and the consequences are dire, failure to update EMIS means losing capitation grants. I am also disappointed that some School Management Committee members join for selfish reasons, yet we need people who genuinely care,” DEO Adam stated.
Adam further urged head teachers to keep time, as it reduces workload and conserves energy, while cautioning that late-starting schools with delayed lessons are destined for poor performance.
The district Human Resource Officer, Tukamuhabwa Jasper, announced that the Human Capital Management Information System (HCMIS) will run the new financial year, with performance agreements, leave, and score cards all processed online. He urged head teachers to activate their emails for TIN access.
“With the new financial year going fully digital via HCMIS, performance tools and leave requests will be online. Head teachers must activate their emails to get their TINs,” Jasper confirmed.
Meanwhile, officials from the Ministry of Education are slated to facilitate a TELA refresher training for head teachers on 14th and 15th July 2026, with a stern warning that negligent loss of the devices will not be tolerated.
