RUBIRIZI – The Office of the Rubirizi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) has vowed to arrest and charge any civil servants found guilty of absenteeism, bribery, negligence, or theft of government drugs.

The ultimatum was issued by the Assistant RDC for Rubirizi, Mathias Kakoni, while presiding as the chief guest at the district’s health department performance review meeting, held at the District Headquarters this week.

Kakoni did not mince words, singling out staff who report late, demand bribes, or show a lack of professionalism, stating such conduct violates national laws and robs the public of essential services.

“I urge all public servants to love their jobs and follow the code of conduct; anyone who feels unable to serve should resign before they are arrested and charged in court,” Kakoni warned.

He warned local leaders not to conspire with technical staff to steal government property, urging them to collaborate well with the technical staff to deliver proper government services to the people.

District Health Officer Dr. Aidah Nankynga stated that Rubirizi would intensify efforts to climb the national rankings through staff workshops, skills training, and community sensitization aimed at encouraging residents to seek care at government facilities.

Dr. Nankynga also vowed to personally track down negligent or unwilling health workers, insisting that proper records must be maintained and that quality community service is how they give back to the government.

“I will personally go to the ground to track down any health worker who is unwilling to work or negligent at their duty station. We must maintain proper records and give back to the government through quality community service,” Dr. Nankynga stated.

Rubirizi District Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Paul Samuel Mbiiwa, called on residents and local leaders to report underperforming government workers involved in indiscipline, corruption, neglect of duty, drunkenness, lateness, and absenteeism.

He warned that errant workers would face the full force of the law, with those found culpable taken to court for prosecution while others face disciplinary processes leading to dismissal, demotion, or salary reduction.

“I call on residents and local leaders to become whistleblowers and continuously report government workers engaged in indiscipline, corruption, neglect of duty, drunkenness, habitual lateness, and absenteeism. Those found guilty will go to court, lose their jobs, get demoted, or have their salaries cut,” Mbiiwa stated.

During the meeting attended by the district health officials, including officers in-charge, midwives, and clinical officers, it was brought to notice that the district was recently ranked 50th in the country for health service delivery.
