RUBIRIZI, UGANDA – Kyamuhunga Catholic Parish in Rubirizi District has held a memorial thanksgiving mass to honor and joyously celebrate the remarkable legacy of the late Reverend Father Paolino Tamaino.

The mass, held on March 15, 2026, was widely attended by clergy, friends, and believers, serving as a powerful testament to the profound and lasting impact the Italian-born missionary had on the parish.

Born in Italy on November 4, 1937, the late Fr. Paolino dedicated his life to serving God and humanity in Uganda until his death on March 3, 2024. He was laid to rest in Kyamuhunga Catholic Parish, where he had served for 66 years.

Presiding over the service, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Ayebare Arikanjero, praised the late Fr. Paolino for his tireless dedication to both the church and the spiritual and social welfare of the people.

Fr. Ayebare highlighted the late priest’s unwavering efforts in fighting social vices that erode community values, including poverty, immorality, indiscipline, and corruption.

He specifically recalled Fr. Paolino’s vocal stance against indecent dressing, such as miniskirts and open chests, which he saw as detrimental to the moral fabric of society.

“Late Fr. Paolino was a shepherd who cared not only for our souls but for the dignity and well-being of our entire community. He fought tirelessly against poverty, indiscipline, and immorality, always guiding us towards a path of righteousness and respect,” said Fr. Ayebare.

Fr. Ayebare urged the congregation to reflect on Fr. Paolino’s good deeds and to embrace values of love, discipline, respect, and compassion, adding that good deeds ensure fond remembrance while hard work is key to boosting household income.

The Headteacher of St. Mary’s Vocational School Kyamuhunga, Fr. Tumuhaise Felex, fondly recalled his friend as a biblical and faithful servant who perfectly administered what was entrusted to him.

He reiterated that the late Fr. Paolino selflessly served beyond the church by fighting poverty, illiteracy, and domestic violence while passionately promoting education to dispel ignorance.

“Remembering the good things Fr. Paolino did brings a lot of joy. He didn’t just serve the church; he actively helped the government in the development of the people. The late fought poverty, illiteracy, and domestic violence, while passionately promoting education and dispelling ignorance,” Fr. Felex said.

NRM Party Deputy Treasurer Kyatuhire Jackline and Fr. Belto Franco, who both attended the mass, described Fr. Paolino’s passing as a profound loss to both the church and the government.

They celebrated his legacy as a key development partner who fought ignorance and poverty by building churches, schools, and hospitals for the community.

Fr. Paolino’s legacy of love, discipline, and development will continue to inspire the Kyamuhunga community for generations, with speakers thanking him for his enduring solidarity in uniting the people across many parishes.
