KABALE, UGANDA – Police in Kabale district have launched an investigation into the mysterious death of an unidentified woman whose lifeless body was found floating in a local river.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The grim discovery was made on Tuesday afternoon, March 17, 2026, at Rwagana Cell, Mwanjari Ward, within the Southern Division of Kabale Municipality, along the River Rwabakazi.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Maate Elly, told this reporter that the police were alerted to the discovery and operatives were quickly deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, a team of crime scene investigators cordoned off the area for a thorough examination and later retrieved the body from the water, which was already in a decomposing state.
The body has since been deposited at the Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed that the identity of the deceased remains unknown, and the circumstances leading to her death are yet to be established.
He appealed to anyone with a missing relative or friend to visit the hospital mortuary for identification, ensuring the body can be released to the family for a decent and dignified burial.
“We are appealing to any members of the public who may have a relative or friend who has gone missing to visit the hospital mortuary. This will help in the identification process so that the deceased can be handed over to her family for a decent and dignified burial,” Maate stated.
Meanwhile, inquiries into the incident are currently underway as authorities work to unravel the mystery surrounding the woman’s death.
