KASESE – Two men were struck dead by lightning in Kasese Municipality during a heavy downpour as they sought shelter under trees next to their workplace.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, when the two men took shelter under a tree next to their workplace, where they earned a living ironing clothes. It was during this time that a heavy rainstorm swept through the municipality, accompanied by lightning that tragically struck the pair.
The Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, noted that upon receiving the report, a team of police officers visited and documented the scene of the crime.
The two deceased bodies were subsequently conveyed to Kasese Health Center III Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.
The public has since been advised to avoid seeking shelter under trees, near poles, or in open spaces during heavy rains and lightning, and instead seek refuge in properly constructed buildings with roofs and walls.
