KISORO – More than 1,000 people in Kisoro District have appended their signatures to endorse Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba (MK) for the 2031 presidency, in the ongoing nationwide Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) signature collection drive.

Speaking as the Guest of Honour, the State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Grace Akifeza Ngabirano, emphasized that the mobilization reflected the genuine will of the people participating in the process.
Hon. Akifeza, who is also the Kisoro District Woman MP, highlighted the importance of youth participation in leadership and national affairs, noting that the initiative could create new opportunities for young people.
“The mobilization has shown the true will of the people taking part. The youth are coming on board to join leadership and national affairs. The Patriotic League of Uganda will create new opportunities for the young people,” Hon. Akifeza noted.
Former Kabale District Chairperson Shangabasheija Nelson, a mobilizer, has praised Gen. Muhoozi as a tested potential leader, pointing to his roles as Chief of Defence Forces and Presidential Advisor on Special Operations.
He told a gathering that national leadership needs a capable driver, expressing his wish for Gen. MK to succeed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and urged residents to support his expected appearance on the 2031 ballot.
“Gen. Muhoozi is a leader who has been tested. He has done big jobs like Chief of Defence Forces and Advisor to the President on Special Operations. Our country needs a good driver. I want him to take over from President Museveni. I ask all residents to support him when he runs in 2031,” Shangabasheija noted.
The Kisoro mobilization team head, Capt. Arthur Mugisha Rucakatsi, has described Gen. Muhoozi as a generational leader and potential 2031 presidential candidate, while urging residents to support the PLU mobilization.
At the function, Capt. Mugisha launched an expanded safety initiative targeting boda boda operators across Kisoro, with plans to provide helmets to up to 8,000 riders through phased donations of 200 at a time.
He noted that the initiative aims to urge riders to prioritize their safety, protect passengers, and reduce the risks associated with motorcycle transport, having already donated helmets to the Kisoro United Boda Boda Association.
The Kisoro exercise forms part of PLU’s broader nationwide mobilization for Gen. Muhoozi’s proposed 2031 presidential bid through endorsement activities and the collection of physical signatures from supporters in different parts of the country.
