RUKUNGIRI – The man in Rukungiri district has committed suicide by hanging, moments after subjecting his wife to a cold-blooded and gruesome murder that has left the community reeling in shock and disbelief.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The deceased have been identified as Tushabirane Cosma, 40, and his wife Ayebare Speria, 34, both residents of Rugando Village, Nyakinengo Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub-county, Rukungiri district.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, 16th August 2026, as the couple remained at home after sending their three children to church and then locked themselves inside the house.
Upon returning from Sunday prayers, the children found all the doors of their house closed from the inside. The eldest became suspicious and pushed the door hard, only to find their father’s hanging body swinging from a rope.
Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, confirmed that Police were notified and swiftly responded and mounted a search for Ayebare, whose lifeless body was later recovered in their bedroom in a pool of blood.
“Our officers were notified about this heartbreaking incident after the discovery of the hanged husband and swiftly responded. Upon search, another body, that of the wife, was recovered in their bedroom in a pool of blood. The two bodies were conveyed to the hospital mortuary for postmortem. Investigations are still ongoing,” Tumushime stated.
SP Tumushime added that Police conveyed both bodies to Rwakabengo Hospital Mortuary, pending postmortem examinations as investigations continue.
