KAMPALA – President Yoweri Museveni has hailed the proposed Regional Farm Service Centre Initiative as a long-awaited catalyst for modernising Uganda’s agriculture and curbing the persistent scourge of counterfeit agro-inputs.

The delegation unveiled an ambitious tripartite collaboration involving Namunkekera Farm Service Centre, the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB), and Mr. Ramaphosa’s enterprise.
Andile outlined a visionary plan to build infrastructure for profiling, breeding, harvesting, and exporting premium Ankole cattle genetics to the SADC region and beyond.
He also proposed a specialised laboratory to enforce quality assurance and verify agricultural inputs against the counterfeit fertilisers, seeds, and veterinary drugs that have long troubled Ugandan farmers.
“This plan is about giving our farmers better cattle, stronger, healthier, and more valuable. We want to set up a lab to test all farm inputs like seeds, fertilisers, and animal drugs. This will stop fake products that have hurt our farmers for years,” stated Andile.
Andile Ramaphosa, the first son of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, further underscored the shared goal of elevating Uganda’s cattle quality to match the high standards found in South Africa.
President Museveni appreciated the delegation for bringing fresh, transformative ideas that can uplift Uganda’s agricultural sector and drive growth in the livestock industry.
He also urged them to embrace science-driven breeding by selecting specific genes for valuable traits like high-quality milk, good meat, and strong offspring, ensuring maximum productivity and a brighter future for farmers.
“This is a good step for Uganda’s livestock industry. We must use science to breed better cattle, choose genes for more milk, better meat, and stronger calves. If we focus on these traits, our farmers will produce and earn more,” President Museveni reiterated.
The proposed collaboration is poised to not only elevate Uganda’s livestock sector but also to strengthen regional trade ties, positioning the country as a key exporter of high-grade Ankole genetics.
