KABALE – The husband in Kabale District subjected his wife to a brutal punishment, resulting in her death, over stolen money she allegedly used to purchase waragi (local gin).

The deceased has been identified as Niwamanya Gorrette, alias Koreti, 35, a housewife and a resident of Nyakarindi Village, Kasheregyenyi Parish, in Kamuganguzi Sub-county.

Koreti was brutally assaulted by her husband, Babikyingira Godfrey alias “God” of the same village, following a heated altercation over missing money.

Reliable sources indicate that on Sunday, June 7th, 2026, at around 7:30 PM, the deceased was drinking waragi at a local bar in their village trading centre.

The husband later arrived and accused her of stealing his money before picking a fencing plant (oruyenge), which he used as a lethal weapon to brutally beat her to death.

The Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, has since confirmed the incident, stating that upon receiving a tip-off, police officers from Kamuganguzi Police Post responded and rushed to the scene.

He added that the suspect was tracked down and apprehended and is currently detained at Kabale Central Police Station (CPS) to aid in ongoing investigations.

“We are holding the suspect as inquiries continue. A murder case has been registered, and the body of the deceased has been conveyed to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination,” stated SP Tumushime.

Police have since condemned the act of domestic violence, urging couples to resolve disputes amicably or seek help from local leaders and probation officers rather than resorting to violence.
