KAMPALA – The businesswoman, who was kidnapped earlier this week on Wednesday, has been found dead just days after her abduction, despite her family scrambling to pay a ransom to secure her release.

The deceased has been identified as Babirye Lydia Sengendo, whose lifeless body was discovered in Kakiri, Wakiso District, in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 7, 2026.

Reliable sources indicate that Sengendo was last seen alive boarding a shared taxi at Busunju, a bustling trading center along the Mityana road.

When she failed to return home that evening, relatives filed a missing persons report, sparking a desperate search. The family’s worst fears were confirmed by a ransom demand from her kidnappers.

Via an unidentified phone call, the kidnappers initially asked for UGX 19 million and in a frantic attempt to save her life, relatives raised and delivered UGX 8 million to the captors. Yet, in a cruel turn of events, the assailants killed her anyway.

Her lifeless body was later discovered in Kakiri, located roughly 20 kilometers west of Kampala, from which her remains were since transported to the city mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

The murder of Sengendo has drawn condemnation from local leaders, who are calling for increased surveillance and stricter checks on public service vehicles operating on the Busunju-Kakiri route.

The case has highlighted the rising danger of taxi and public transport abductions along the city’s outskirts. As per this report, the police have launched a murder and kidnapping investigation.
