NTUNGAMO – The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Ntungamo, Ms. Atuhaire Rosemary, has vowed to take firm action in tackling absenteeism, late reporting, and corruption among health workers in public facilities in the district.

Deputy RDC Rosemary announced her stand following an impromptu inspection at Ruhoko Health Centre III in Ntungamo Municipality, which caught health workers off guard and revealed a facility struggling with operational lapses and staff absenteeism.

She told this reporter that the purpose of her visit was to monitor services for the local community, and she vowed to continue inspecting all health centres across the district to ensure better service delivery for the local people.

“Absenteeism and lateness by health workers are nothing but corruption in disguise. Every minute a patient waits because a nurse is absent is a minute their life is put at risk. We shall not look away. We shall keep visiting, keep inspecting, and keep holding everyone accountable,” stated RDC Rosemary.

Ms. Rosemary further drew a hard line on laxity by equating absenteeism and delays to the theft of public resources, and invoked the President’s current focus on fighting corruption.

She acknowledged the government’s investment in infrastructure at Ruhoko Health Centre III, noting that its structural backbone remains strong with a good building, a maternity ward, and other wards to help patients.

The RDC was accompanied by a team including the Ntungamo Municipality Mayor Jacob Kafureka Jakex, Municipal Human Resource Officer Mr. Fred, and the Municipal Council’s Secretary for Health and Education.

Upon finding the facility in a state of poor sanitation, Ms. Atuhaire demonstrated hands-on leadership by leading the entire team in a general cleaning exercise to immediately improve hygiene at the centre.

Meanwhile, Mayor Jacob Kafureka Jakex echoed the Deputy RDC’s sentiments, pledging the municipality’s full support in rooting out indiscipline among health workers across the municipality.
