Police Confirm Numerous Exhibits Recovered from Former Speaker Anita Among’s Premises Amid Ongoing Corruption Probe

KAMPALA – The Uganda Police have confirmed that former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, continues to be under heavy security monitoring following numerous exhibits recovered from her premises.

The development was revealed by the Uganda Police spokesperson, ACP Rusoke Kituuma, on Monday, June 1, 2026, during the weekly press briefing at the police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.

The Bukedea Woman MP, Anita Among, was sanctioned by President Museveni in mid-May 2026. The probe rests on key pillars: alleged corruption, money laundering, illicit enrichment, and breach of the Leadership Code Act on wealth declaration.

The dramatic escalation followed inter-agency raids on Anita Among’s residences in Kampala, Nakasero, Ntinda, Kigo, and Bukedea starting May 16, 2026, as investigators widened their corruption probe after discovering new exhibits during forensic analyses.

During the raids, authorities seized luxury vehicles including a Rolls-Royce Cullinan valued at approximately Shs 3 billion, while investigators mapped financial networks, procurement deals, and bank accounts linked to her staff.

Meanwhile, the Inspectorate of Government also received a petition from lawyers and activists accusing Among of failing to declare, or under-declaring, her income, assets, and liabilities as required every two years.

The police spokesperson confirmed the heightened security posture at Among’s place reflects a dual role for personnel deployed to the former Speaker, noting she remains entitled to security while investigators will stay only as long as their interest in the case continues.

Rusoke added that investigators have extracted many exhibits from Among’s residences, though he declined to provide an immediate inventory, stating that the details will be communicated to the press at an appropriate time.

“Even as a former Speaker, she is entitled to security in the first place. However, if the specific investigations officers from the inter-agency formation still have any interest, they will keep their presence there. If they have no interest, they will pull out,” ACP Rusoke stated.

Meanwhile, the Inspectorate of Government last week formally submitted its investigation report on Anita Among to the President, with sources indicating the document is part of ongoing inquiries.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the report’s full findings or indicated what disciplinary or legal action may follow, though the submission marks a significant procedural step in a high-profile probe.
