KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced the immediate appointment of Brigadier General Jackson Pande Kajuba as the new Commander of the UPDF Armoured Division.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The appointment follows the sudden passing of Major General Deus Sande, who died yesterday, Wednesday, from severe breathing complications and was laid to rest this afternoon at his ancestral home in a solemn military ceremony.
Brig Gen Kajuba, formerly Deputy Commander under the late Maj Gen Sande, assumes command with immediate effect at a critical time for the Division, which plays a pivotal role in the country’s mechanised warfare capabilities.
In a concurrent directive, the Chief of Defence Forces, who is also Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, approved the promotion of Colonel Wilson Bagonza Rwakanara of the Special Forces Command (SFC) to the rank of Brigadier General.
He has been appointed Deputy Commander of the Armoured Division, stepping into the significant role previously and ably held by Brig Gen Kajuba upon his elevation to command.
Military sources described the appointments as a seamless transition, carefully calibrated to preserve institutional memory and ensure operational continuity.
Brig Gen Kajuba’s intimate knowledge of the Division and his prior tenure as Deputy Commander position him to lead with both strategic competence and quiet compassion during this solemn period of mourning.
Brig Gen Kajuba is regarded as a seasoned armour tactician, while Brig Gen Rwakanara brings specialised expertise from the elite SFC, signalling a deliberate fusion of conventional and special operations experience at the helm of the Division.
The UPDF High Command has called on all officers and men of the Armoured Division to rally behind the new leadership as the force honours the legacy of the late Maj Gen Sande.
