KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Ministry of Water and Environment has issued public advisories in response to anticipated contrasting weather patterns across the country this February.

This is based on the National Agro-Meteorological Bulletin, which forecasts contrasting weather for the first ten days of February 2026, with the north facing dry conditions and the south expecting isolated light rain.

The report indicates that between February 1–10, most northern areas will experience dry weather, while the southwestern regions, the Lake Victoria basin, and parts of the Toro subregion could receive occasional light rain.

Officials advise residents in the south to prepare for potential fog, haze, strong winds, and dusty conditions, which may reduce visibility and affect air quality.

The Ministry, through the Department of Meteorological Services, urges motorists to drive carefully in foggy conditions and advises farmers to monitor for pests and report any outbreaks.

Daytime temperatures are forecast to remain high, ranging from 24°C to 32°C in West Nile, Northern, Karamoja, and parts of the eastern regions.

Cooler conditions between 20°C and 24°C are expected in the west, central, and some eastern zones. The highland areas such as Kigezi, Rwenzori, and Elgon will see milder temperatures, from 8°C to 20°C.

Notably, elevated heat stress levels are predicted for the West Nile and Acholi regions, where prolonged exposure could lead to heat fatigue in both humans and livestock, prompting advisories for precautionary measures.

Farmers are advised to practice careful post-harvest management to reduce losses, and livestock keepers are encouraged to use pasture and water sustainably amid dry spells.

The Ministry also recommends vegetable farming with localized irrigation as a sustainable way to generate extra income during this period.

Furthermore, the Ministry advises using mulch to retain soil moisture, urges urban authorities to clear drains to prevent flooding, and encourages water harvesting in areas expecting occasional rain.
