Dr. James, who is also the Head of the Azania Filmmakers Association (Pan-Africa), made the statement after receiving an award for being the country’s premier film maker at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry from Sail Magazine.

He highlighted the nation’s remarkable journey in revolutionizing African storytelling and placing its vibrant culture on the world stage.

“I’m honored to highlight Nigeria’s remarkable journey as the cultural capital of Africa. At the forefront of this achievement is Nollywood, the vibrant film industry that has not only entertained but fundamentally changed how the world sees us,” stated Dr. James.

The ambassador emphasized that Nollywood’s influence extends far beyond the screen, acting as a potent engine for cultural diplomacy and continental pride.

According to Dr. James, Nigeria’s Nollywood, with over 2,000 films produced annually, is a formidable force for global cultural promotion and economic empowerment, showcasing Africa’s heritage worldwide while creating millions of jobs.

Dr. James also highlighted the industry’s power in authentic storytelling and bridging divides, giving a powerful voice to African experiences while fostering unity across the continent’s diverse nations.

“Nollywood has promoted African culture globally, created jobs for millions, and told our stories, giving voice to our experiences. It has bridged cultural divides, fostering unity and understanding across the continent,” Dr. James elaborated.

He asserted that through the global power of Nollywood and Afrobeat, Nigeria has become a beacon of African excellence, proving the continent’s vibrant culture, immense talent, and boundless potential to the world.

As a UN Peace Ambassador, Dr. James issued a heartfelt plea for stability, stating that peace, not war, is essential for Nigeria and Africa to truly blossom.

He further issued a rallying cry for a collective African renaissance, urging continental collaboration to build upon the current cultural momentum.

“As we celebrate Nigeria’s cultural achievements, let’s recognize the power of African peace, unity, and collaboration. Let’s work together to promote our shared values, traditions, and stories. Let’s make Africa the cultural and economic powerhouse it deserves to be,” Dr. James urged.

The address marks a significant moment of cultural affirmation, positioning Nigeria’s creative industries as a leading catalyst for a new, unified, and prosperous African era.
