KISORO, UGANDA – The Pentecostal Fellowship Group has publicly commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s government for creating an environment where Pentecostal churches can operate freely and flourish across Uganda.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! This sentiment was expressed during a grand thanksgiving celebration at Kisoro Christian Centre Church, marking a year of conferences and crusades in Kisoro and Kabale, where leaders reported that thousands had accepted Jesus Christ.
The celebratory mood was slightly tempered by a lower-than-expected turnout for the final event, but the overarching message from the pulpit was one of gratitude for the current era of religious liberty.
In a powerful address to the congregation, Pastor Sam Rukundo recalled the starkly different time under Idi Amin, when Pentecostal churches were banned for over nine years.
“Under the previous regime, our churches were silenced. Only the Anglican, Catholic, and Muslim faiths were allowed to operate openly. For this reason, we must applaud and thank the current government for opening the space for all religions to worship freely,” Pastor Rukundo stated.
He further encouraged Christians to continue supporting evangelical conferences, emphasizing the generation’s need for spiritual guidance and calling on believers to repent and prioritize God.
Pastor Tom Mbabazi criticized the growing pride and worldliness among young Christians, specifically urging girls to abandon what he called indecent dressing in church and return to modesty.
Church leaders also reflected on significant challenges from the past year’s evangelism work, including road accidents while transporting equipment and harrowing accounts of pastors sleeping by the roadside to protect instruments from theft.
Elias Tukahebwa, the caretaker of Kisoro Christian Centre Church, expressed his gratitude to the local Christian community and to visiting pastors from the United States and Rwanda for their steadfast support.
“The growing number of new converts we have witnessed this year is a clear testament that the gospel is spreading effectively throughout our region,” Tukahebwa said.
Church leaders urged Christians not only to embrace the gospel message with renewed commitment but also to actively invest their resources and energy into its continued spread.
