KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Ministry of Water and Environment has encouraged people to dig trenches and use other soil conservation methods to reduce the impact of flash floods and waterlogging in their areas.

The alert was issued following an announcement from the Department of Meteorological Services (DMS) that most of Uganda can expect good, beneficial rainfall throughout November 2025.

According to the Department’s forecasts, rains will be primarily driven by moist winds from the Congo, creating perfect conditions for showers and thunderstorms, especially over the Western and Central regions.

Forecasts indicate that the outlook is very positive for farmers and water resources in the Western and Eastern regions, with peak rainfall expected to continue through the entire month of November, likely bringing more rain than usual.

The Central region will also see beneficial rains, with showers continuing until the end of the month in the south and through mid-November in northern areas like Nakasongola and Nakaseke.

Meanwhile, the Northern region will receive steady showers and thunderstorms until mid-November, providing ample moisture before a gradual reduction signals the start of the dry season.

Daytime temperatures will be pleasant across most of the country, ranging from 20°C to 30°C, while the mountainous regions of Rwenzori, Elgon, and Kigezi will experience a much cooler 8°C to 14°C.

The cooler trend will continue into the night, with most areas seeing minimum temperatures between 12°C and 20°C, offering comfortable conditions.

Based on the forecast, the ministry advised the public to prepare for potential flooding by digging trenches and to practice water harvesting by collecting rainwater for future use.

Farmers are encouraged to undertake timely weeding, stock up on pesticides, and use fertilizer to protect their crops and maintain soil fertility.

For public safety, communities should also monitor malaria risks and ensure they have mosquito nets, while motorists are cautioned to drive carefully in the morning due to reduced visibility from fog and haze.
