KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has commissioned 498 new officer cadets in a powerful display of African military cooperation.

Addressing the officers, President Museveni underscored the foundational values that the new officers have been instilled with during their rigorous training.
He emphasized that they are joining “an army of warriors and heroes founded on patriotism, Pan-Africanism, discipline, professionalism, and resilience.”
Gen. Museveni commended the leadership of the UPDF, specifically the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), for steadfastly maintaining what he termed a “tradition of excellence” in military training.
He highlighted the arduous 177-kilometer “Salim Saleh” trek, a revered tradition that honors Uganda’s heroic past by testing the new cadets’ endurance and resilience while connecting them to the UPDF’s legacy of liberation.
President Museveni celebrated the visible spirit of Pan-Africanism at the ceremony, expressing his delight at the cooperation with African brothers, evidenced by the participation of cadets from fellow African nations.
“The presence of our brothers from Tanzania, Somalia, Mali, and the Central African Republic in this intake is proof that Africa can manage her own affairs,” President Museveni declared.
The commissioning of Intake 19/25 – Long significantly strengthens the UPDF’s operational capacity by injecting nearly five hundred well-trained officers and reinforcing Uganda’s commitment to regional stability through collaborative security efforts.
The ceremony was attended by high-ranking military officials, diplomats from the represented African nations, and proud families of the graduates, all celebrating the cadets’ transition into commissioned officers of the UPDF.
