Bloodstained Trail: Police Dog Leads to Five Arrests in Kabale Mechanic’s Murder

KABALE, UGANDA – The community of Kabale Municipality is in mourning after the body of a prominent local sound speaker mechanic was discovered brutally murdered in a secluded eucalyptus plantation, bearing severe cut wounds to his head.

The deceased has been identified as Rubanja Juma,a resident of Upper Bugongi ward, whose body was discovered in the Rugarama Pida cell area on the morning of October 9, 2025.

The incident was uncovered by a resident who, while traveling from Pida cell to Rugarama at approximately 7:38 a.m., found Juma’s body lying in a eucalyptus plantation alongside the route.

A witness alerted the victim’s family, after which Juma’s brother, Barugahale Salim, confirmed the identity and promptly reported the matter to the Kabale Central Police Station.

The Kigezi Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that a multi-unit team with canine officers was dispatched to the scene. They were met by the Kabale District Police Commander (DPC) and other first responders who had already secured the area.

Following the cordoning off of the crime scene, a police sniffer dog tracked a scent to a nearby pork joint, leading to the arrest of five suspects who are now in custody assisting with the investigation.

ASP Elly Maate confirmed that upon the suspects’ arrest, several key exhibits were recovered, including a t-shirt stained with what is suspected to be blood, a pair of shoes, and a sandal.

Police have appealed to the public for information leading to the arrest of those involved,confirming the investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the motive and circumstances behind the murder.
