KAMPALA, UGANDA– The Director of Partnerships at the Uganda AIDS Commission, Etii Tom, has called for increased engagement of men in HIV prevention and an acceleration in testing and treatment to achieve the 95-95-95 targets, particularly among men and youth.

He pushed for a strengthened national HIV/AIDS response, emphasizing the critical goals of eliminating mother-to-child transmission of the virus and bolstering institutional effectiveness for a more streamlined and collaborative multisectoral effort.
The Under Secretary & Accounting Officer, Dr. Sengonzi Damulira, while officiating at the function, challenged MoFPED staff to be faithful to their partners, avoid risky behavior, and, if possible, abstain from sex, alcohol, and drug abuse.
“If you are active, adopt safe sex practices, know your HIV status and that of your partner,” said Damulira.
He said all staff should remain committed to being change agents in their workplaces, communities, and families as they work towards a future free of HIV/AIDS.
Statistics indicate that Uganda has 1,492,410 people living with HIV/AIDS, with 71,833 being children under 15 years old. Women account for about 930,000, while men and boys account for around 570,000.
Unfortunately, there are still thousands of new infections occurring annually, with 38,000 reported in 2023. Adolescent girls and young women bear a significant burden of these new cases.
