RUKIGA, UGANDA – Police in Rukiga District have advanced their investigations into the recent murder of Henry Mugume, aka “Kaboy,” a 28-year-old boda boda rider and resident of Kirimbe Cell, Kandago Parish, Bukinda Sub-county.

The deceased was last seen alive at around 2:00 am on September 18, 2025, at Rukiga Campus Bar in Rwabahazi Village, Muhanga Ward, Muhanga Town Council.

His body was discovered later that morning with a rope tied around his neck. The motorcycle he was riding, registration number UMA 409AG, which belonged to Nyegyess Memory, was stolen.

Following a coordinated meeting between boda boda riders, bar owners, and local leaders, headed by the Rukiga District Police Commander, SP Musinguzi Moses Karakire, combined efforts this week have yielded progress.

SP Musinguzi confirmed that on September 24, 2025, a combined team of police and cyclists went to the home of the alleged suspect, Byamukama Davis, a resident of Ruhonwa Cell, Butare Ward in Muhanga Town Council.

The DPC stated that although the suspect has gone into hiding, a blood-stained T-shirt was recovered during the operation and will be forensically examined.

His parents were apprehended at the scene and have claimed ownership of the T-shirt, which is now awaiting examination by the police surgeon in Kabale District.

Reliable information had earlier circulated in the village that the suspect, who was allegedly last seen with the deceased, had been in custody at Rukiga Central Police Station but was released on police bond.

When questioned about this release, SP Musinguzi confirmed his awareness of the situation and stated that efforts to re-apprehend the suspect are underway, pending further advice on the case file.

“The suspect was in our custody but was released on bond. We are working tirelessly to re-arrest him. During a search of his home, we recovered a yellow, blood-stained T-shirt belonging to the suspect, Davis, which will be subjected to forensic examination. His parents have been apprehended ,” said DPC Musinguzi.

In a related development, acting on a tip-off from local residents about a hidden motorcycle, police searched the home of Mwesigye Chris.

During this operation, a motorcycle with registration number UEL 783S (TVS) was recovered, along with an assortment of motorcycle spare parts.

The Chairperson of the Boda Boda Cyclists in Muhanga Town Council, Naturinda Bright, said that when a tragedy strikes one of their members, it serves as a stark warning that it could happen to any other rider.

He added that they are committed to weeding out criminal elements targeting boda boda cyclists, which often results in loss of life and theft of their motorcycles.
