Kisoro, Uganda – Police have confirmed that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary elections, which were suspended last Thursday in several areas, were conducted peacefully today under tight security.

The voting process had been temporarily halted in seven villages – Kanyenka, Migeshi, Murambi, Nyabitare, Kabaya, Karambi, and Bushoka – following protests over the use of the official voter register. Today’s exercise was completed without incident.

The Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate reported that security personnel ensured the electoral process was carried out in an orderly manner.

“The electoral process, initially suspended due to challenges, was completed successfully with security ensuring smooth, incident-free voting,” Maate stated.

The police spokesperson commended all candidates and the public for maintaining peace during the exercise and urged continued order and cooperation in the upcoming general elections.

During Monday’s weekly security briefing, Kisoro District Police Commander Ben Niwamanya Kashumbusaha confirmed increased security deployments to safeguard the electoral process.

The District Police Commander delivered a firm warning, stressing an absolute zero-tolerance stance against electoral misconduct.

The situation remains calm across the district as election officials prepare to announce the final results of the concluded exercise.
