Kisoro Campaign Trail Heats Up as Residents Grill Candidates on Broken Promises

Kisoro, Uganda – Residents of Kisoro Municipality have called on aspiring Members of Parliament to improve education standards by advocating for a government-funded seed school.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

Residents raised these concerns during NRM Candidates joint campaigns at Kisoro Municipality Mayor’s Gardens and Kidiba Polling Station, arguing a government-funded seed school would help children from poor families who can’t afford private school fees.

Beyond education issues, residents questioned the sale of the public cemetery in Gatovu, which has left many families without burial space for their loved ones.

They also challenged Emmanuel Maniraguha about his support for the incumbent MP, who allegedly never returned to Kisoro after being elected.

Voters criticized former MP Byibesho for boasting about providing posho (maize flour) to residents during the COVID-19 pandemic while failing to deliver lasting infrastructure projects, particularly the promised plastic recycling industry during his term.

Addressing education inequality, parliamentary aspirant Dr. Leo Mfitimana vowed to deliver a much-needed seed school to Kisoro, ensuring quality education becomes accessible to all children in the municipality.

He further committed to establish a state-of-the-art plastic recycling facility in Kisoro Municipality, a project aimed at tackling the growing waste management crisis while creating sustainable employment opportunities for local youth

Maniraguha justified his endorsement of the incumbent MP, arguing that his position reflected a broader consensus among local leaders, though he faced scrutiny from voters questioning the MP’s track record.

Appealing directly to constituents, Maniraguha sought to rebuild voter confidence, pledging hands-on leadership and accountable representation should he secure the parliamentary seat.

Facing tough questions about his parliamentary performance, Byibesho deflected scrutiny by redirecting attention to his previous term’s road construction record rather than addressing constituents’ current dissatisfaction.

At the same campaign event, the Gasiza Youth Development Group launched a piggery project to generate income for local youth.

Group Chairperson Derrick Zabayo announced the project is fully funded by Dr. Mfitimana, with all necessary materials already delivered to the site.

As election campaigns intensify, Kisoro residents await concrete solutions to their pressing needs in education, infrastructure, youth development, and political representation.
