Flood Alert: UNMA Predicts Heavy Rains for Northern Uganda, Cool Temps Countrywide

Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) has predicted moderately wet conditions and cool temperatures across Uganda from July 11 to 20, 2025.

Most parts of the country will receive rainfall, with heavy to extremely heavy rains expected in northern and eastern districts.

These downpours may cause flooding, waterlogging, and disruptions to travel and farming in Karenga, Kaabong, Kotido, Napak, Moroto, Nakapiripirit, Amudat, Lamwo, Kitgum, and parts of Katakwi and Kumi.

Temperatures will remain cool, ranging between 20°C and 24°C in northern and eastern regions, including West Nile, Lango, Acholi, Teso, and parts of Bukedi and Bunyoro.

Meanwhile, southern Uganda and parts of Karamoja will see temperatures below 20°C, with the coldest conditions (8°C to 16°C) expected in the highland areas of Kigezi, Rwenzori, and Elgon.

While most of the country will experience normal temperatures, areas near Lake Albert, Kasese, and Bukedi may face heat fatigue, prompting residents to stay hydrated and limit sun exposure.

The rains will boost pasture growth and water supplies for livestock, but they also bring risks of flooding, water contamination, malaria outbreaks, and hazardous foggy conditions for drivers.

UNMA advises farmers to practice mulching and irrigation while monitoring pests, urges Karamoja communities to store rainwater, cautions motorists about poor visibility, and recommends malaria precautions for all residents.
