Kisoro, Uganda – The Bishop of Muhabura Diocese, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbitse, has called for peace to be restored in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to allow its citizens to enjoy their country.

The prayer session was held to celebrate the opening of St. John’s Busigi Church of Uganda. Bishop Mbitse’s plea comes in response to concerns from DRC Christians who cross into Uganda seeking peace and stability.
He emphasized the need for peace talks to address conflicts in the North Kivu Province and prayed for God’s intervention to rescue those affected by conflicts and wars.
The bishop also warned Ugandan Christians against harboring hatred towards those from the DRC, promoting peace and unity instead. Noting that living in war disrupts people’s ability to think clearly, Bishop Mbitse renewed his call for peace in the DRC.

The DRC has been plagued by clashes between Congolese armed forces and non-state armed groups, with the conflict escalating since January 2025.
The M23 rebel group, backed by Rwanda, has seized key cities like Goma and Bukavu, displacing millions and killing thousands. Regional actors, including Uganda, Burundi, and South Africa, have been drawn into the conflict.
