Kabale, Uganda – A recent report from the AIDS Commission reveals that Rukungiri District has the highest HIV infection rate in the Kigezi region, standing at 8.3%.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Kanungu District follows closely with a rate of 6.6%, while Kabale District ranks third with a rate of 5.5% with Kisoro District having the lowest HIV infection rate in the region at 2.2%.
These findings were presented during a coordination meeting with implementers of the HIV Prevention Communication Program for the Kigezi region, held at Cephas Inn Hotel.
According to the AIDS Commission’s HIV situation report for Uganda as of December 2023, approximately 1,433,000 people are living with HIV, comprising 858,000 women, 495,000 men, and 80,000 children.
In the Kigezi region, data from the District Health Office (DHO) in Kabale indicates that as of December 2024, 18,848 people are living with the HIV virus. Unfortunately, 23 people succumbed to HIV-related illnesses between October and December 2024.
